Sattur is a town which is located in Virudhunagar District. It is famous for fireworks and match industries. There are eight taluks in this district. There is a river called Vaippar, which is a dry river. The soil in Sattur is a rich Black soil. This town is connected to many main parts of the state through Railways and Roadways. Sattur is the major producer of Fountain Pen Nibs. There are many cottage industries in Sattur like fire works, match industry and printing press. There are two famous temples in Sattur namely Irrukangudi Mariamman Temple and Vinayagar Thirukoil. Irrukangudi Mariamman Temple is one of the famous temples in the Southern part of India. It is at 8 kms from Tiruchendur. To the northern side of this temple is Archuna River and in the southern part of this temple is another river called Vaipparu. This temple has a history, in olden days there was a girl who is helpless and shouting for her basket and seeks help from public, at that moment she got the power of Amman and asked people to built the temple in that place. Vinayagar Thirukoil was built very early, though it is located in the interior of the city it is a very popular pilgrim centre.
